Afghan hunger strikers again refuse water

Thirty eight of the men are still inside St Patrick's Cathedral this evening. They are now refusing water as well as food.

Mediation talks aimed at bringing the stand-off to a conclusion have ended without any results.

The Church of Ireland is hitting out at the Department of Justice. They say they reached an agreement overnight with the men but that the Department refused to enter into negotiations.

An ambulance arrived at the Cathedral just before five o'clock. Two medics attended to the men but nobody was brought to hospital.

The stand-off looks set to continue long into the night.
