Gardaí in Limerick have named the teenager shot dead in a gangland-style execution on the outskirts of the city overnight.

Nineteen-year-old Aidan Kelly, from the Moyross area of the city, was shot five times in the head and body after apparently being lured to a country lane in Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, at around 11pm.

The victim was rushed to hospital, where he died a short time later.

Gardaí have sealed off the scene of the shooting for technical examination, while they are also due to conduct tests on the gun used in the killing, which was found nearby.

The motive for the shooting is unclear. The dead man is believed to have been known to gardaí.
