A Limerick teenager has been shot dead in a gangland-style execution on the outskirts of the city overnight.

A Limerick teenager has been shot dead in a gangland-style execution on the outskirts of the city overnight.

The 19-year-old was shot five times in the head and body after apparently being lured into a country lane in Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, at around 11pm.

The victim was rushed to hospital, where he died a short time later.

Gardaí have sealed off the scene of the shooting for technical examination, while a post mortem will also be carried out later today.

This morning's newspapers say the dead man was from the College Avenue area of Moyross and was known to the gardaí.
