Woman dies in Cavan crash

A woman in her 70s has died following a car crash in Co Cavan.

The accident happened just before 5pm yesterday evening on the Ballinagh Road.

The woman's car collided with a wall.

Her death comes as motorists are being urged to think about safety this May bank holiday weekend.

Garda checkpoints have been set up around the country, on motorways and accident blackspots in a bid to curb road deaths.

The May bank holiday last year claimed nine lives and road safety authorities fear there could be a repeat if drivers do not heed the safety message.
