O’Cuiv to launch scathing attack on media ‘imbalance’
The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs is to launch a scathing attack on Ireland's national media organisations in a speech later today.
Eamon O'Cuiv is accusing the media of constantly focusing on the negative and creating a society "pickled in cynicism and begrudgery".
He will also use his speech at the John Healy Awards for Journalism to accuse the media of paying little attention to stories coming from "outside the Pale".
He claims reporters are failing to provide a balanced of opinions from all the people of Ireland.
As an example, he says, the national media is constantly criticising the decentralisation process and ignoring the positive aspects that are only reported in local media.
