Elderly man dies after mugging in Belfast city centre

A 67-year-old man has died in hospital after he was assaulted and robbed in Belfast city centre yesterday evening.

The man was struck on the side of the head off Ann Street at around 5.30pm by an assailant who stole his wallet.

He was immediately taken to hospital, where he died a number of hours later.

The cause of his death has yet to be established.

The PSNI believes the attack was linked to the almost identical assault and robbery of an 85-year-old man just off High Street minutes beforehand.

The assailant in both cases was 30 to 40 years old, around 5'11" in height, with a heavy build and dark, thinning hair.
