Man loses hand in Kilkenny mine explosion

Health and Safety Authority Inspectors this afternoon launched an investigation into an explosion at a Co Kilkenny mine in which a man lost his right hand.

Health and Safety Authority Inspectors this afternoon launched an investigation into an explosion at a Co Kilkenny mine in which a man lost his right hand.

The man, understood to be a local from Tulloroan, was injured after a detonator exploded in his hand at Galmoy mines. He was immediately taken to St James's Hospital for treatment.

The scene has been preserved as part of the investigation but the okay was given for work at the mines to continue.
