Weekend road death toll highest in past six years
Eight people have died in accidents on the Republic's roads since last Friday night, making this year's Easter bank holiday weekend the worst in six years.
The latest victim was a man in his 20s who died yesterday afternoon from injuries he sustained when his 4x4 collided with a truck near Tuam in Co Galway on Saturday morning.
The body of a 63-year-old man was also found trapped under his car off a bog road in Co Kildare yesterday morning, while a 40-year-old man died when his motorcycle collided with a car in Co Cavan on Sunday evening and a 26-year-old died when his car struck two stray horses in Co Meath on Saturday.
The other four victims were all Polish nationals who died when their car collided with a lorry in Ballinhassig, Co Cork, on Friday night.
