Post mortem to be carried out on body found in Athlone

A post mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of a man found dead in Athlone over the weekend.

The body was discovered in a derelict house on Griffith Street in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Gardaí are unclear on how long the remains had been in the house, but they are not believed to be treating the death as suspicious.

Reports this morning say the dead man is believed to be 52-year-old Ray Moore, a former republican prisoner in the North who had been sleeping rough in the area.
