Taoiseach appeals to drivers to put safety first

The Taoiseach has made a special appeal to motorists to drive with care over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Bertie Ahern has urged all motorists to ensure they and all passengers use seat-belts, observe the speed limits and never drink and drive.

Mr Ahern said that a significant core of drivers still believe it is acceptable to drive after drinking, despite all the evidence showing the sometimes tragic consequences.

AA Roadwatch is also warning motorists to observe speed limits and avoid getting penalty points.
