FAS workers to down tools in decentralisation protest
FAS workers in Dublin are planning to down tools for a number of hours this morning to protest against the decentralisation of their jobs.
The jobs are being moved to Birr, Co Offaly, as part of the Government's decentralisation programme, but SIPTU says only a small number of employees are interested in the move.
The union has also accused FAS of reneging on the voluntary nature of the programme by limiting promotional opportunities to people who are willing to transfer to Birr.
Pickets are due to be mounted at four FAS offices in Dublin city centre between 8am and 11.30am today as part of a campaign of opposition to the move.
