Man arrested after fatal road accident in Galway

Gardaí in Co Galway have arrested a man in his 20s following the deaths of a mother and daughter in a road accident this morning.

The two women were killed when their car was struck by a trailer that detached from a truck in Cloonacauneen, on the main Galway-to-Tuam road, just after 6am.

One of the victims was in her late 20s, while the other was in her early 50s.

Both are believed to be from the Galway area.

The road where the accident occurred is currently being technically examined and is expected to remain closed for much of the day.
