Driving instructors have said they will seek talks with the Minister for Transport Martin Cullen over clearing the driving test backlog and the introduction of upgraded driving instruction.

Driving instructors have said they will seek talks with the Minister for Transport Martin Cullen over clearing the driving test backlog and the introduction of upgraded driving instruction.

The Irish School of Motoring have criticised the Government’s failure to appoint more driving testers in order to improve the current situation whereby an applicant can be waiting up to 62 weeks for their driving test.

In Britain, the wait is usually only six or seven weeks.

The School also said it is crucial that we adopt European methods whereby driving test applicants must undertake ten hours of classroom training and a further ten hours driving instruction.
