Man arrested in connection with Rachel O’Reilly murder

Gardaí today arrested a man in connection with the investigation into the murder of Rachel O’Reilly.

The 30-year-old mother-of-two was beaten to death in her home in Naul, north Co Dublin, in October 2004.

Gardaí today arrested a man and detained him at Drogheda Garda Station, close to the home she shared with her husband, self-confessed chief suspect Joe O’Reilly.

“One man is being detained at Drogheda Garda Station under the provisions of Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. He can be detained for up to 12 hours without charge,” a Garda spokesperson said.

The arrest comes as it emerged that Rachel’s parents may be considering legal action to gain access to their two grandchildren.

It is believed that Jimmy and Rose Callaly have not seen Adam and Luke for up to 10 months because they feel uncomfortable in the company of their son-in-law.
