Eight year jail term for Kiely rape and manslaughter

Ian Horgan has been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for the manslaughter and rape of beautician Rachel Kiely.

The 22-year-old Cork man, who was found not guilty of her murder, apologised to his victim’s family for his actions. The body of Miss Kiely, 22, was found in a ruin in a park in Ballincollig, Co Cork on October 26, 2000.

She had been raped and died from compression to the neck. A jury of seven men and five women returned a majority verdict to rape following more than four hours’ deliberation. He had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
