Greens call for obesity recommendations to be implemented
The Green Party is calling on the Government to fully implement the recommendations of the National Task Force on Obesity.
It is approaching the second anniversary of its establisment, but obesity figures are soaring here.
Banning junk food advertising to children and providing safer outdoor areas to play in are just some of the proposals in the document.
Deputy John Gormley fears nothing will come of this report: “I’m afraid this report could lie of a shelf gathering dust like other reports and we’re dealing here with a major problem.
“We now know from all the studies that two out of every five European children could be overweight by 2010. That really means very serious health problems in the future.”
