Demand for review of security for St Patrick's Day parade

Fine Gael Senator Brian Hayes has called for a review of security arrangements for Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The review is needed after the riot at last Saturday’s attempted loyalist march and because of trouble at St Patrick's Day parades in recent years, according to the senator.

"The rioting which took place last Saturday should be a wake-up call to the Minister for Justice and the garda authorities," he said.

Senator Hayes, the party’s spokesperson on Dublin, has claimed these measures should include the temporary closure of city centre off-licences.
