Police hunt knifemen after petrol station raid

Terrified workers were held up at knife point today by two robbers at a shopping centre in north Belfast.

The raiders entered the petrol filling station at the Yorkgate shopping centre armed with knives shortly after 7am.

Staff were threatened before the pair made off with a small amount of cash in a blue Volkswagen Golf with blacked out windows.

A PSNI spokeswoman said a similar car was later found abandoned in the Marsden Gardens area of the city and taken for technical examination.

Detectives at Antrim Road station, who are appealing for information, said one of the men was described as in his late teens, around 5’2” in height, of slim build, with short dark hair and wearing a light-coloured hooded top.

The second raider was of slim build, wore light coloured hooded top and had a moustache.
