Stardust survivor to seek Dáil seat in north Dublin

One of the survivors of the Stardust tragedy has announced her intention to contest the next Dáil election.

One of the survivors of the Stardust tragedy has announced her intention to contest the next Dáil election.

Antoinette Keegan is planning to seek election in the Dublin North Central constituency, the scene of the massive fire that killed 48 people at the Stardust nightclub in 1981.

Ms Keegan will be challenging sitting Fianna Fáil TDs Sean Haughey & Ivor Callely, as well as Richard Bruton of Fine Gael and Independent Finian McGrath.

Announcing he r candidacy, she said she was seeking election as part of the Stardust survivors' long-running campaign for a proper inquiry into the tragedy.

"For the last 25 years, we've been fighting for justice on the outside," she said. "Now, I'm going to get into the inside, if I'm elected, and I'll get justice for the Stardust families."
