Waiting lists for GPs likely unless funding increases
GPs have threatened to withdraw out-of-hours coverage unless they get more funding from the Government.
This means public patients could face waiting lists to see their local doctor according to the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO).
The funding shortage was discussed at the IMO’s general conference at the weekend.
The organisation said doctors can no longer provide a 24-hour service, without greater support from the Health Service Executive.
The group claimed the lack of investment in primary care means patients in rural and deprived areas will suffer most.
