Four killed in road accidents
Four people were killed in three separate road accidents, gardaí said today.
A man and a woman died after the car they were travelling in collided with a low loader on the Ballincollig bypass in Co Cork.
The accident happened shortly after midnight at Lisheens near Ovens. Two other people who were injured in the crash were taken to Cork University Hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Elsewhere, a 28-year-old man died after the car he was driving collided with another vehicle near Loughrea, Co Galway.
The incident occurred at around 12.30am at Kilmeen. The man’s body was removed to Portiuncla Hospital for a post mortem examination.
In the third accident, which happened just before midnight in Co Sligo, a man was hit by a car as he walked along the road at Carricknagat, between Ballisodare and Collooney.
The man, who was in his late 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor. His body was removed to Sligo General Hospital for a post mortem examination.
