Dublin Drugs Court to be expanded and made permanent

The Drugs Court in Dublin is to be expanded and made permanent following the success of the initiative during a five-year trial period.

The court was set up as a supervised treatment programme for drug addicts who plead guilty to non-violent offences.

At present, it operates on a limited basis, but the Courts Service is planning to expand the initiative to allow all district courts in Dublin to refer eligible defendants.
