Belfast City Council has agreed to fund this year's Saint Patrick's Day celebrations, despite objections to the move by the Democratic Unionist Party.

Belfast City Council has agreed to fund this year's Saint Patrick's Day celebrations, despite objections to the move by the Democratic Unionist Party.

Councillors voted by 25 to 24 last night to provide £100,000 (€145,100) towards the carnival-type event, which is planned for Customs House Square on March 17.
