The Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) has called for the cap on teacher recruitment to be lifted to help deal adequately with the large number of children from new ethnic communities in the country’s primary schools.

The INTO said there needs to be a ratio of one language teacher for every 14 pupils from immigrant backgrounds.
