Man perishes in Cork blaze

A 28-year-old man has died following a house fire in Cork city.

The fire broke out at a house on the Kerry Road in the Mayfield area of the city.

The alarm was raised at 6.15am. Three units of the fire brigade and two ambulances attended the scene.

A neighbour who tried to rescue the man was injured by broken glass and is being treated in hospital.

Garda and fire services investigations have begun into the cause of the blaze.
