Five Kerry companies charged over radon gas levels

Charges have been brought by the Radiological Protection Institute against five Kerry companies.

It's the first time the Institute has sought to prosecute employers over failure to test for the concentration of radon gas, otherwise known as the silent killer, in the workplace.

The companies also failed to submit measurements of the gas to the RPI.

The five companies charged all have addresses in Tralee and were: Tayto, Xtra-visio n Ltd, Corcoran Food Equipment, Dr Collette Brasil and Bolger Fabrications.

Their cases have been adjourned until May 3, 2006.
