Finucanes to hold talks with Church of Ireland leader

Relatives of murdered Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane are due to meet the head of the Church of Ireland today as part of their campaign for a proper inquiry into the 1989 killing.

The British government has announced plans to hold an inquiry into the murder, but the investigation is due to take place under legislation that allows the authorities to withhold certain information from the public.

The Finucanes believe this will prevent the truth from emerging.

Pat Finucane was shot dead in front of his family by a gang of loyalist gunmen.

There have long been allegations that the British security forces colluded with the UDA paramilitaries who carried out the murder.
