Labour demands investigation into false meat labels
The Labour Party is demanding an investigation into the discovery of false health stamps at an Irish meat plant.
The Food Safety Authority revealed this week that it had found the stamps at a factory in Ballybay, Co Monaghan.
It also said it had seized records from another country in the town and had confiscated a consignment of beef from a third premises as part of cross-border investigation.
The probe centres on the alleged illegal repackaging and re-labelling of meat and poultry products.
Labour TD Mary Upton says she believed it was a very deliberate deception and must be investigated by the Department of Agriculture and the FSA as a matter of urgency.
