Mothers of newborn children will be entitled to six months paid maternity leave by 2007, under new measures announced in the Budget.

The current entitlement to paid maternity leave is four months. An extra four weeks will be added from March next year, and a further four weeks in 2007. The same increases will apply to unpaid maternity leave.
