Teen quizzed over gangland murder

A teenager is being questioned over the murder of a man who was gunned down in a gangland killing last month, gardaí said today.

Noel Roche, 27, died when the black Ford Mondeo he was travelling in was sprayed with bullets outside the Yacht pub on the Clontarf Road in Dublin on November 15.

A 19-year-old man was arrested last night following a planned search of a house in Cabra, a Garda spokesman said.

He is being detained at Raheny Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.

The teenager is the second person to be held in connection with the killing, after the driver of the car – who escaped injury in the shooting by running to a nearby house – was arrested and later released without charge.

The murder of Mr Roche was believed to be a reprisal for the shooting of Darren Geoghegan and Gavin Byrne in the Firhouse area of the city on November 13.

Mr Roche’s brother, John, was shot dead in Kilmainham last March as part of a five-year feud between two rival gangs that has now claimed eight lives.
