Teenager to appear in court over pedestrian deaths
A teenager arrested when two pedestrians died after being hit by a car in Co Louth will appear in court later this month, gardaí said today.
Two pedestrians died after being knocked down on Tierney Street in Ardee at about 1.30am.
The 55-year-old man and 58-year-old woman were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where they were pronounced dead.
A 19-year-old man arrested for questioning in relation to the collision was later released from Drogheda garda station.
A garda spokesman said the man is expected to appear at Ardee District Court on December 22 next on a Road Traffic Offence.
The two latest deaths bring to 365 the number of people killed on the country’s roads so far this year.
The death toll includes 59 pedestrians, 160 drivers, 83 passengers, 48 motorcyclists and 10 cyclists.
