DPP considers murder charge against teen
The Director of Public Prosecutions is considering a murder charge in the case of a teenager accused of killing a man in September, the Dublin Children’s Court heard today.
The 17-year-old boy, who is from Tallaght and cannot be named for legal reasons, had previously been charged with the unlawful killing of Mr James Burke, a 21-year-old Londoner, on September 23 last, at Quarryville, west Dublin.
Judge Catherine Murphy heard yesterday that the book of evidence on the case was not ready.
She was also told that the DPP was deciding on whether the teen would be charged with murder instead.
Judge Murphy remanded the teenager with consent to bail until December 6 pending the DPP’s direction.
