The US government has announced a $13.5m (€11.5m) donation to the International Fund for Ireland.

The US government has announced a $13.5m (€11.5m) donation to the International Fund for Ireland.

The money is due to be distributed throughout 2006 to selected projects in the North and the border counties of Louth, Monaghan, Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo.

The IFI was established in 1986 by the Irish and British governments to promote peace and reconciliation between nationalists and unionists by encouraging greater economic and social co-operation.
