Man gunned down in ‘gangland attack’

A man has been killed in what gardaí believe was a suspected gangland shooting in Dublin.

The victim was a passenger in a car travelling along Clontarf Road near the Yacht Pub at around 9.30pm yesterday when shots were fired at the vehicle.

The passenger was hit a number of times in the head and died at the scene. The driver of the car managed to escape on foot.

The scene around the black Ford Mondeo vehicle has been sealed off pending their arrival of a forensics team and the State pathologist.

Gardaí have appealed for help from pedestrians or motorists who may have witnessed the incident.

Detectives are investigating whether the shooting is linked to a drugs-related double murder in Firhouse in south-west Dublin on Sunday evening.
