Report into Leas Cross to be given to family today

A report into the death of Downs Syndrome man at the controversial Leas Cross nursing home is due to be given to his family today.

Sixty-year-old Peter McKenna, who also had Alzheimer's disease, died in October 2000, two weeks after being transferred to the private facility in north Co Dublin.

The Health Service Executive commissioned a report into the death after a television documentary earlier this year highlighted the mistreatment of residents at Leas Cross.

The nursing home has since closed down.

It is unclear when the report into Mr McKenna's death will be published, but the dead man's family has said they have been promised that a copy will be delivered to their house today.
