An investigation is tonight underway after a fire at nurses’ accommodation in the grounds of a Belfast hospital.

More than 50 fighters tackled the blaze which broke out on the seventh floor of Bostock House at the city’s Royal Victoria.

Assistant Area Commander Gordon Latimer of Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service said no one was injured in the fire, which was reported shortly before 4.30pm.

Mr Latimer said: “There is considerable fire damage to the seventh floor and smoke logging on the upper floors of the building.

“The cause is not known just yet and an investigation is underway.”

The blaze was brought under control almost two hours later in an operation which involved ten fire engines and two high-reach appliances.
