A crowd of several thousand marched on the Dáil this afternoon to protest against Irish Ferries' plans to make 550 staff redundant and replace them with cheaper foreign labour.

In a statement released today, Irish Ferries said that time was running out, as it struggling to compete with rival ferry companies. It also said it understood the concerns being expressed by unions at today's march.
