Labour Party TD Brendan Howlin has demanded an urgent review of power supplies to Wexford Regional Hospital following an overnight black-out at the facility.

Labour Party TD Brendan Howlin has demanded an urgent review of power supplies to Wexford Regional Hospital following an overnight black-out at the facility.

Several seriously ill patients had to be transferred from the hospital as its back-up generator failed to work properly during the power cut in Wexford town.

"We simply can't have a situation where power to intensive care or accident and emergency is not available," Mr Howlin said.

"We were lucky last night - there could have been fatalities. The experience we've had last night really deserves the most thorough investigation."
