Taoiseach sends condolences to bomb-hit New Delhi

The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has sent a message of condolence to the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, following the terrorist bombings in New Delhi yesterday.

The Taoiseach said the actions of the terrorists were "deplorable and cowardly".

"I see it as particularly despicable that these evidently concerted bombings were cynically directed at ordinary people as they went decently about their business in what was meant to be a joyous, happy and giving time in the lead-up to the festive holidays in India.

"Such acts of terrorism are to be utterly condemned and the sympathy and solidarity of the Irish people are with you and the people of India as you work to cope with this outrage and in your efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and in defeating the forces of terrorism."
