Man pleads guilty to dangerous driving causing death
A Dundalk lorry driver pleaded guilty today to a charge of dangerous driving causing the death of a 12-year-old boy returning from a circus with his cousins.
Gerard Bloomfield (aged 45) also pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to the deceased’s cousin.
Bloomfield, from Green Road, Dromiskin, Dundalk, Co Louth, was arraigned before Judge Patrick J Moran at Cork Circuit Criminal Court today.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Billy Kelleher of Ballinahina, Co Cork, at Corrin, Fermoy, Co Cork, on February 20, and causing serious bodily harm to Billy O’Flynn, also aged 12, from the Fermoy area.
John Edwards, senior counsel, said the defendant was anxious to have sentencing dealt with in the present sessions of the criminal court.
Judge Patrick J Moran put the case back to November 16 for sentencing. Full details of the background and circumstances of the case will be given on that date.
