An Post strike threat 'very serious', says Martin
The Enterprise Minister has described as very serious the prospect of postal chaos over the Christmas period.
Micheál Martin was reacting after An Post members of the Communications Workers Union voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action
The dispute, which could lead to a postal strike, centres on pay rises which the union claims An Post is refusing the pay.
The action has fuelled fears that An Post's monopoly on letter distribution will come about sooner than anticipated.
Minister Micheál Martin said a strike would be injurious to An Post staff and management, adding he didn’t see a strike achieving very much.
