The Guardian’s Baghdad correspondent Rory Carroll has been released unharmed and is safe and well, the newspaper said tonight.

The Guardian’s Baghdad correspondent Rory Carroll has been released unharmed and is safe and well, the newspaper said tonight.

Irishman Carroll went missing while on assignment in the city yesterday.

The 33-year-old who is one of the newspaper’s most experienced foreign correspondents, has been based in Iraq for the last nine months.

A spokesman for the paper said: “He has been released unharmed. He’s safe and well.”

The spokesman added that they were awaiting further details.
