Woman in court over canal murder

A 22-year-old unemployed woman was charged today with the murder of a Somali man whose dismembered body was found floating in the Royal Canal in Dublin.

Charlotte Mulhall, from Kilclare Gardens in Tallaght, appeared at Bridewell District Court charged with killing 39-year-old Farah Swaleh Noor.

The immigrant’s mutilated corpse was found semi-submerged in the canal in the shadow of Croke Park in March last year. It took almost four months for forensic detectives to identify him.

Detective Sergeant William Hickey told the court Miss Mulhall, a single woman, was arrested at her home at 11.35am yesterday.

Gardaí released her but later rearrested her at 10pm and took her to Mountjoy Garda Station.

Mr Hickey told the court that when the murder charge was put to Miss Mullhall, she replied: “Nothing to say.”

Judge Connal Gibbons remanded her in custody to appear at the Bridewell District Court next Tuesday.
