A Derry solicitor who worked on the Bloody Sunday Tribunal is believed to be part of a new legal team hired by the family of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Desmond Doherty is believed to be part of a new defence team led by Anthony Scrivener QC, who represented Gerry Conlon of the Guildford Four and a number of other high-profile clients.

Saddam is due to go on trial next Wednesday accused of ordering the execution of 143 in the Iraqi town of Dujail in 1982.
