Irish astronomy buffs were left disappointed this morning when cloud cover across much of the country spoiled their view of today's partial solar eclipse.

Irish astronomy buffs were left disappointed this morning when cloud cover across much of the country spoiled their view of today's partial solar eclipse.

Around two-thirds of the sun's surface was in shadow during the event, which reached is peak at around 10am and is not due to happen again until 2011.
