Man dies in fall from Limerick apartment block

A 19-year-old man has died after reportedly falling from a drainpipe and becoming impaled on railings at an apartment complex near Limerick city yesterday morning.

Reports this morning said gardaí had been alerted to a possible attempted burglary after the man was spotted climbing the drainpipe on Clare Street at around 9am.

However, it appears he may actually have been trying to gain entry to a relative's apartment at the six-storey building.

This morning's reports said the man managed to extricate himself from the railings after his fall, but collapsed nearby and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival in hospital.
