Man killed and two hurt in crash

A man was killed and two others injured after a collision between a car and a truck in Co Sligo.

Another accident in the North-West of the country last night left a 20-year-old woman dead.

One of the two people injured in the accident in Sligo this morning was believed to be in a serious condition in hospital.

Gardaí said the crash happened at around 11am at Ballinacarrow on the N17 road south of Sligo town.

It is believed to have involved a collision between a car and a truck.

A garda spokeswoman said: “Two other occupants in the car were taken to hospital.”

The driver of the lorry is not believed to have been injured in the incident.

Gardaí have sealed off the area and traffic diversions were put in place.

The latest accident brings to over 270 the number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year.

In a separate accident in Co Donegal, a 20-year-old female driver was killed yesterday on the Lifford to St Johnston Road around 11.50pm.

Gardaí in Letterkenny said the woman was fatally injured when the car she was driving crashed into a wall.

There were no other occupants in the car at the time.
