Motorcyclist killed in crash
A motorcyclist died after a collision with a car in Co Cork today.
The crash between the motorcycle and car took place on the main Macroom to Cork road at Currahealy at around 7.30am.
The male driver of the motorcycle, who was 39-years-old, was fatally injured.
Two men, who were travelling in the car, received injuries in the crash and were taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital for treatment.
The body of the motorcyclist, who has yet to be named, was also removed to the same hospital.
Gardai have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them at Macroom garda station on 026 20590.
Around 272 people – including 43 motorcyclists and around four passengers on bikes – have been killed on Irish roads so far this year.
Statistics from the National Safety Council (NSC) revealed over 280 people were killed in road crashes during the same period last year.
