HSE publishes guidelines to prevent spread of MRSA
The Health Service Executive has published guidelines aimed at controlling the spread of so-called "superbugs" like MRSA in Irish hospitals.
The guidelines advise staff of the importance of regularly washing their hands and recommend the provision of alcohol hand-rubs at the bedside of each patient.
They also say hospitals themselves should be kept clean, while overcrowding should be minimised, more isolation rooms should be provided and beds should be kept a certain distance apart.
