Second brother dies playing soccer

A 29-year-old Co Kilkenny man has reportedly died during a soccer match just over a year after his younger brother died in almost identical circumstances.

Reports this morning said Michael Byrne, from Cuffestown, died yesterday while playing for his club, Rover Rangers, in Division Two of the KIlkenny Football League.

His 25-year-old brother, Ken, also collapsed and died while playing for the same team in June of last year.

The Byrne brothers are among several Irish sportsmen to die after collapsing on-pitch in recent years.

Other victims include Tyrone GAA star Cormac McAnallen and Irish under-19 rugby international John McCall.
